FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 10, 2004 New York, NY.
New York Fashion Week, LA fashion Week, Oscars, Cannes Film Festival, Helping Hands Charity Events with M Night Shyamalan, Miss Universe Amelia Vega, Anand Jon, Howie D (Backstreet Boys), Lydia and Gillian Hearst, Michelle Rodriguez, Operation Tribute to Freedom and now IG International announces that the acclaimed film “White Rainbow” has been chosen for two bi-coastal, exclusive, limited engagement charity events prior to the Cannes Film Festival.
“White Rainbow”, the acclaimed film by director Dharan Mandrayar, is building anticipation for an LA “sneakpeek” charity event in April and a New York City charity event in May just prior to an international showing at the Cannes Film Festival.
“It is amazing the response to this film. I am humbled by the appreciation that people have felt upon the telling of this story,” said director Dharan Mandrayar recently.
“I was amazed by what I’ve seen so far. I think that this could be one of the best Indie films of the year” said RB Zera of Ten-Media recently after viewing various clips during production.
“White Rainbow” is the story of four remarkable women and their journey to overcome the societal stigma and grim reality of widowhood. Abandoned by their families, impoverished by a system that fails to recognize them, and denied even the simplest grace of wearing color, they find the resolve to transform their lives. Together, this disparate group challenges the myths and traditions that surround not only the treatment of widows in Indian society, but also the widows' own resignation to their fate. And, in the process, individual transformation takes hold. No longer destined to a fate of poverty and servitude, the women emerge empowered with the belief that they are the champions of their own lives. The film inspires us all to see the Rainbow present in every woman. It inspired producers Hannah Kirby and Linda Mandrayar to put their hectic lives on hold and traveled to India to research and make this movie that touched their heart and soul and to bring it to the world.
A New York Times story recently quoted an oppressed Indian widow: “If we say that we are suffering, who is going to bother? We will still be alone, and we will still be left with only one solution, to pray to God. It’s our life and we must live it and hope for better in the next.”
